Chinese Tea Harvest Calendar
Qingming and Guyu are solar terms, so their Gregorian dates shift each year. This resolves them and shows what each picking window yields.
| Window | Dates | Yields | Our SKUs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-Qingming 明前 | Late March – 5 April 2026 | Highest-grade green tea | GT-01, GT-02, GT-03 |
| Pre-Guyu 雨前 | 6 April 2026 – 20 April 2026 | Green tea, fuller body | GT-01, GT-04 |
| Post-Qingming 明后 | 15 April 2026 – late May | Black tea, premium grades | BT-01, BT-02, BT-04 |
| Summer / autumn 夏秋茶 | June – September | Commercial black tea, teabag cut | BT-03, BT-05, GT-04 |
Why these two dates matter
Qingming falls around 5 April and Guyu around 20 April. Between them they set the price of most Chinese tea for the year. Leaf picked before Qingming carries the season’s peak amino acid concentration and the lowest yield, which is why it commands a multiple of what the same garden produces six weeks later.
Green before, black after
In Jishou the two products are separated by date rather than by plot. The finest early leaf goes to green tea; once the pre-Qingming window closes, the same gardens switch to black tea production, where the extra body from slightly older leaf is an advantage.
Planning against it
Allocation for a spring lot is discussed the previous autumn. Enquiring in May about pre-Qingming tea means buying from the spot market at a premium, if it is available at all. If a spring lot matters to your range, the conversation needs to happen in October.
How the dates are calculated
Solar terms are astronomical, not fixed calendar dates. This tool uses the standard approximation formula, which is accurate to within a day across 2000–2099. Actual picking start also depends on the weather in a given season — a cold March delays everything.
