How much tea actually fits in a container, by packing format. The answer is almost never the payload limit.

Tea almost always cubes out before it weighs out — a 40 ft container of leaf tea in cartons will fill on volume long before it reaches the payload limit. This is why quoting tea freight per kilogram alone is misleading.
Tea cubes out, it does not weigh out
Dry tea has a low bulk density — around 260 kg per cubic metre for leaf grades in cartons. A 40 ft container has roughly 58 usable cubic metres and a payload limit around 26.5 tonnes, so it fills on volume at roughly half its weight capacity. Quoting tea freight per kilogram alone is therefore misleading; the container costs the same whether you fill it or not.
Density by format
Format matters more than most buyers expect. Teabag cut is denser than leaf because the particles pack more efficiently. Instant powder is denser again. Pyramid bags and retail pouches are the least dense of all — a container of cartoned pyramid bags may hold under six tonnes.
Stuffing efficiency
No container is loaded to 100% of its internal volume. Palletised cartons typically achieve around 90%; floor-loaded cartons can reach 95% but cost more to handle at both ends. Set the figure to match how you actually receive goods.
