About this grade
Golden Tips is made entirely from unopened buds, hand-plucked and hand-sorted. Yield is low — it takes a great many buds to make a kilogram — so quantities are limited and allocated by season.
The leaf is uniformly golden, downy and fine. The liquor is lighter in colour than the leaf grades but noticeably sweeter and more viscous, with a honeyed aroma that carries into the empty cup.
Buyers use this grade the way a wine list uses a single-vineyard bottling: it is not where the volume is, it is what makes the rest of the range credible.
